This year’s tournament was held on Sunday 15 September. For the first time in 19 years the weather was not kind to us but despite torrential rain and gale force winds we managed to complete the tournament playing the finals indoors.
As ever a great days’ netball saw a spectacular final between local friends and rivals Bournville 1st and Lyndon Centre. Bournville 1st triumphed for only the 3rd time in the tournaments history winning 11-6.
The Lyn Cain Plate was won by Midrange who triumphed against Libra Lea 11-7
“The Joan Annie Lacey Trophy” for the player of the tournament as voted for by umpires was won by Jenny Roberts of Leamington Netball Club.
As a result of the excellent support we receive every year we raised a fantastic £3,900 for our new link charity Help Harry Help Others http://www.hhho.org.uk and we look forward to a further 2 years linking with this fantastic locally based charity who supported us through the event with Harry’s mum, Georgie, receiving the cheque from Lyn’s parents, Derek and Moria, who come and support us every year together with Lyn’s brother Bryan.
This brings our total fundraising through the Lyn Cain Trophy since 1995 to £59,445 supporting cancer related charities. A fantastic achievement particularly in today’s economic climate!! 2014 will be our 20th year!!!
